The comic is in black-and-white for the most part. Nio wakes up on the shores of Mount Mango, a large mountain looming in the distance, where the entierty of the story takes place. He walks up a hill and meets Melody Rivers, foraging for her adventure.>
Nio and Melody approach two men - the barkeeper for the shop and the ex-piano player for the school. The piano player's name is Tom and he quits. He leaves the school. The barkeeper offers Nio and Melody a healthy carbonated beverage called Burpy Fizz. Melody uses a magic crystal to change into her school uniform, the two walk into the school.> They enter the mountain school. The first floor is a gift shop/mini-library, it's kind of like a Cracker Barrel shop. Melody puts a book back on the shelf and Nio goes upstairs, Melody follows him and asks what his favorite kind of book is. Nio says comic books and he asks Melody the same question, she says she likes history and science. They go upstairs into the practice room. Melody says this is where you pick your area of study for six months. Nio says he doesn't have time for that and Melody convinces him to look around. The practice room is full of students ready to graduate and go to Mount Mango. Nio meets one of the scholars, the mage scholar, who informs him that Mount Mango, the setting, is where many people come to accomplish they're dreams and that the school offers ways to help people survive on it. She asks Nio why he's here.> Nio says he doesn't know. The mage scholar tries to test his magic capability, drunkenly, but Nio goes away. Dimitri, who was sitting by Nio and the mage scholar, groans loudly. Soria, daughter of the mage scholar, wonders if she should apologize to Nio for her monther's behavior. Nio approaches the sage scholar, the philosophical man who teaches nature and concepts of the mountain to students. The scholar informs him of such, and Nio jokes that no one signed up to be in his class. Dimitri Delgado walks over to Melody Rivers, he asks her if he can sit and what she's reading. He asks if he can join her group, she says yes but demands respect. Dimitri gets excited and runs off to use the restroom.> Nio goes back to Melody, saying he's ready to go and how he only met two scholars but is uninterested in taking the courses. Melody is suprised and takes him to see the bodybuilding scholar. Sat by the bodybuilding scholar is someone referred to as Calvin's father and Calvin Cadence. The man posing as Calvin's father boasts about Calvin's ability. The bodybuilding scholar looks relieved to see Melody. She informs him that she met someone who isn't going to sign up for a class.> The bodybuilding scholar explains that the four scholars: himself, the mage scholar, sage scholar, and craftsman scholar(one who teaches practical skills like camping/cooking), ventured up the mountain, but decided it was too dangerous and came back down and decided to establish the schools so future travelers would have an idea of how to survive this place. Nio asks why the scholar has cat ears. The bodybuilding scholar says that the mage scholar conjured them up for him and he like them. The man posing as Calvin's father interjects and Calvin backs him up. The scholar continues by saying his class teaches fighting fundamentals derived from mainland techniques (which are techniques derived from the seven continents of the world), and unique martial arts styles of his own teachings that cater to survival on the mountain. Nio is still disinterested and is ready to go. The bodybuilding scholar asks Melody to wait up and he asks her why she's taking someone she doesn't know on the journey. Melody says she can take whatever comes her way and reminds him that she knows what she's doing. They say bye.> The scholar reminds Melody to not let anyone take advantage of her. Nio and Melody exit the school with other students, who are all wearing different outfits. They exit by the school garden with interesting plants and sit by the wall. Nio asks Melody why they are waiting and she says that they are waiting for Dimitri. Nio has an outburst, questioning Dimitri's strength and ability - saying he can sense it somehow. Melody retorts by saying that Nio has no right to judge anyone, especially since he just came out of nowhere to the school. Nio says he can sense the strength of him somehow.> Melody says Nio has no right to be rude and Nio says he gets visions that make him uncomfortable and apologizes to Melody after she teaches him to. Nio says he doesn't know where the outburst came from. Nio says he can't remember his past. > Nio spots Calvin lurking around the school garden. Nio and Calvin argue over Calvin being afraid of going on his own. Melody brings up the idea of all three of them going together on the mountain journey, which is met with angry looks from Nio and Calvin. Calvin leaves. The two, Melody and Nio are back against the wall oncemore, waiting for Dimitri. Dimitri comes out and is suprised to see that Nio will be joining them on the journey. Dimitri is upset because he likes Melody romantically and wanted quality time with her. The three walk past the garden, to a forrest path, and spot a bush that shakes. Dimitri hides behind Melody. Calvin is behind the bush. > The two, Melody and Nio are back against the wall oncemore, waiting for Dimitri. Dimitri comes out and is suprised to see that Nio will be joining them on the journey. Dimitri is upset because he likes Melody romantically and wanted quality time with her. The three walk past the garden, to a forrest path, and spot a bush that shakes. Dimitri hides behind Melody. Calvin is behind the bush. > > > The four decide to go as a group on the journey, putting aside the inital arguements and headaches, and continue down the path. The bodybuilding scholar, Harry Thoreau, notices the altercations and teamup while the other scholars fell asleep. They wake up, the sage scholar helps the tired mage scholar back to the school. The craftsman scholar tells the bodybuilding scholar to get some rest before the next students arrive.
